More and more people these days feel that they have the confidence to design their own website. And the increase in people designing their own website is largely to do with the fact that there are so many great tools to help us do it. The only drawback is that without the proper training you can end up with a self-designed website that looks a bit naff.

Below are a few tips that might help to ensure that your website is something you can be happy about.

A lot of visitors don't like being distracted when visiting a website so you should avoid having these. So it is much better to make sure you avoid using things like scrolling text, blinking text or graphics that move on the website. You should definitely avoid having any type of background music on your website. The problem with these distracting elements is not only are they very annoying but they also slow down your website there really is absolutely no benefit to having them.

Avoid using popup windows because they just make your website look like spam they will drive your customers away. One thing you should never have on your site is a popup window which requires the visitor to enter his or her email address because most people will just look for a different site. There is no way that anyone would give you their email address just like that without getting anything in return; why should they?

Background images are another huge mistake. This does not make your site look innovative; all it does is make it look really amateurish. The trouble with background images is that the content can become more difficult to read because of the distraction.

The length of your web pages should only be about two pages long. If it is too long it can be frustrating to wait for the screen to load.
